Dr Anesu Madikane is a highly skilled ophthalmologist with specialized expertise in cataracts and laser refractive surgery for vision correction. Her dedication to enhancing the patient's quality of vision is matched by her extensive training and compassionate approach to eye care.
Education & Training
Dr Madikane's journey to becoming an ophthalmologist is marked by her dedication to learning and honing her skills. She completed her undergraduate medical degree at Stellenbosch University and then pursued a Master of Medicine in Ophthalmology at the University of Pretoria. Her additional qualifications include a Diploma in Ophthalmology and a Fellowship from the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa. Further advancing her expertise, she earned a Master’s in Clinical and Surgical Ophthalmology from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland.
Her subspecialty training includes the prestigious Refractive Surgery Laser Forefront Course at The London Vision Clinic and an ongoing fellowship in Refractive Surgery through the Refractive Surgery Alliance, under the World College of Refractive Surgeons. With a deep passion for helping patients achieve their best possible vision, she specializes in lens-based surgical procedures and corneal-based laser vision correction techniques such as LASIK.
Leadership Roles
Beyond her clinical practice, Dr. Madikane is actively involved in leadership roles within the ophthalmology community. She has served as Deputy President of the Ophthalmological Society of South Africa's Young Ophthalmologists group(OSSA YO) (2020/2021) and then went on to join the executive committee of OSSA where she has served as a member of the exco from 2023 to present. She is the Inaugural President of the African Ophthalmology Council’s Young Ophthalmologists Forum (2022–2025). She was also selected for the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s prestigious Leadership Development Program, Class of 2024.
